Special Editions by Luca Marchetti - Dominique Païni & Mitra Farahani

For this new Special Editions event, Luca Marchetti welcomes author, curator, and key figure of contemporary culture Dominique Païni, along with filmmaker, editor, and producer Mitra Farahani.

They are presenting Scénario, a very special edition and the final project of Jean-Luc Godard: five working notebooks created between 2019 and 2021, conceived as “paper films” blending collages, quotations, drawings, revisions—fragments of a film that will never come to life.

Dominique Païni, former director of the Cinémathèque française, wrote one of the introductory texts for the box set, published in 2025 by Le Livre d’Image Éditions, a publishing house founded in Paris by Mitra Farahani, Godard’s close collaborator and producer of his last two films.

This talk plunges us into the living material of a bare, still-emerging cinema, where publishing—through the physical creation of the box set itself—becomes both the most striking embodiment of Godard’s thinking in action and, for us as reader-spectators, a space of visual and speculative experience.

Is there a story behind the object? What is the personal narrative, the emotion, the feeling behind the words, the lines, the forms? What does the book say about its author? What does the object say about the person who created it? And what, in turn, do the creator say about their object and the author about their book? What else do they say about those who collect them, appreciate them? To find out, Luca Marchetti proposes through Special Editions a series of meetings for those who love slow time and intimate correspondences. The object is at the service of meaning in a conversation of another kind, at once escape, experience, entertainment and communion.
