For the last Special Editions meeting before the summer, Luca Marchetti welcomes David Desrimais, director of JBE Books, to discuss the extraordinary and oversized book ONEPIECE, by the artist Ilan Manouach.

Since 2011, David Desrimais has been developing a catalog of editorial objects at the crossroads of art, humanities, and poetics, designed for the digital age and a global readership. Singular, radical, and open to experimentation, the publishing house JBE Books supports international authors and artists in printed projects that push the boundaries of the book.

In this context, Ilan Manouach, author, researcher, and multidisciplinary artist, has been invited. For over a decade, he has been exploring the contemporary mutations of comics, between tactile practices, editorial hacking, and computational diversions. A true paper monument, his ONEPIECE project is a reinvention of the cult manga One Piece in "one piece," based on a Japanese digital version. It pushes to the extreme the speculative and industrial logic of online cultures, and engages us in a reflection on big data and reading practices in the age of platforms.

Using a narrative medium that is also a conceptual sculpture—at the border of art, publishing, research, and comics—we will explore key logics of contemporary cultural production.

Special Editions is a series of events dedicated to objects and books. At the intersection of design and publishing, Special Editions questions the status of works and objects that occupy a special place in the lives of creatives, authors.

Is there a story behind the object? What is the personal narrative, the emotion, the feeling behind the words, the lines, the forms? What does the book say about its author? What does the object say about the person who created it? And what, in turn, do the creator say about their object and the author about their book? What else do they say about those who collect them, appreciate them? To find out, Luca Marchetti proposes through Special Editions a series of meetings for those who love slow time and intimate correspondences. The object is at the service of meaning in a conversation of another kind, at once escape, experience, entertainment and communion.
